Oyster shell-recycling program launched

BALTIMORE - For years, oyster shuckers shook their heads as they saw buckets full of shells carted off to the dump at holiday parties and bull and oyster roasts.

Despite all the oysters consumed each year in Maryland, there never was an easy way to save the shells and recycle them for Chesapeake Bay oyster restoration efforts. Until now.

The Oyster Shell Recycling Alliance was unveiled Thursday at the Oceanaire Seafood Room in Baltimore's Harbor East neighborhood.
