The Rev. Herman Ray Dean Jr., a retired Navy chief petty officer who was also an Assembly of God minister, died of natural causes Oct. 24 at his home in Fayetteville, N.C., after a brief illness.
The Rev. Dean, 78, previously resided in Annapolis from 1959 to the mid-1980s, and had been affiliated with the Assembly of God. He was associated with Covenant Love Family Church in Fayetteville.
Born Oct. 16, 1926, in Portsmouth, Va., he graduated from Mariana, Fla., High School and attended the Naval Academy for a time. He played drums in the Naval Academy Band.
