Emery J. Biro, 73, of Annapolis, died of Parkinson's disease on Jan. 22 at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Born on Dec. 2, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio, Mr. Biro graduated from Central Catholic High School there in 1950. Following graduation from the University of Detroit in 1954, he earned a master's degree in political science from the University of Chicago.
Mr. Biro was deputy director of the Peace Corps in Peru from 1961 to 1964. He became regional director of the Job Corps in Chicago, where he also worked with the Catholic Interracial Council, various anti-poverty programs and the civil rights...
