Robert Allgaier

Robert G. "Bob" Allgaier, 71, a 35-year resident of Severna Park, died of complications from diabetes May 4 at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

 

Mr. Allgaier was born Feb. 11, 1937, in Williamsport, Pa., to the late George and Emily Allgaier. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1956.

He began his career with Nabisco at their corporate offices in Manhattan, where he stayed for 15 years. He then entered the moving industry with North American Van Lines and was transferred to Maryland as regional director of sales. Subsequently, he became president of a local Allied Van Lines agency, where he remained until retirement in 2000.

Mr. Allgaier was an active member of the Church of the Crucifixion and served on its finance committee. He was also an active member of the Berrywood Community Association, and was its president from 1980 to 1981.

He loved coaching his children in numerous sporting activities. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time at their beach house in Ocean City.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Allgaier.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen L. Allgaier; three sons, Craig Allgaier of Virginia, Mark Allgaier of Arnold and Robert Allgaier of Millersville; two daughters, Cindy Carey of Philadelphia and Julie Antinucci of Millersville; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Church of the Crucifixion, 100 Scott Ave. in Glen Burnie. A reception follows the service. Arrangements are by Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park Drive, Suite 110, Baltimore, MD 21211.

Paul Ammon

Paul Ammon, 79, a resident of Gambrills for 55 years, died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease May 2 in his home.

Mr. Ammon was born Feb. 4, 1929, in Cuxhaven, Germany, to Alma Schumacher and Paulus Ammon.

He worked on the railroads in Germany, then immigrated to the United States when he was 21 and lived in Hull, Iowa, where he worked as a bricklayer.

He was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed at Fort George G. Meade, where he met his future wife. He obtained his citizenship while serving in the Army.

He later became a master barber and owned a shop in Odenton, until he retired due to medical problems.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville.

Along with his family and friends, he enjoyed their dogs and cats. He loved birds and hand painted numerous birds on small tiles. He built many tile-topped tables of all sizes, as well as his own home.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Juliana Walch Ammon; one son, Ronald Paul Ammon; and one granddaughter.

A memorial gathering will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private.

Betty Bednarik

Betty June Thomas Bednarik, 73, a 37-year resident of Davidsonville, died of natural causes May 6 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Bednarik was born July 25, 1934, in Brady, Texas, to the late Carlos R. and Anna Bess Lewis Thomas, and was raised in Mason, Texas.

She was a homemaker most of her life; the wife of an Air Force officer, she spent the first 25 years of her marriage stationed at various bases.

She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening and researching genealogies. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of over 50 years, Charles E. Bednarik Sr.; three sons, Charles E. Bednarik Jr. of Mount Holly, N.J., Robert C. Bednarik of Port Republic and Fred S. Bednarik of Stevensville; one daughter, Cheryl J. Woelfel of Goldsboro in Caroline County; two brothers, Jerry Dale Thomas of Brady and Melvin Ray Thomas of Fort Stockton, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Family and friends may join in the celebration of her life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 800 Wyman Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21211.

John Braun

John H. Braun, 62, a lifetime resident of Severn, died suddenly of heart failure May 4 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Braun was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Severn to the late George and Hermine Rehder Braun.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Braun was a member of Baltimore Best Car Club and the National Rifle Association.

He was known as a very dependable person among his family and friends. He enjoyed car restoration, target shooting and riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include his wife, Susan P. Braun; two brothers, George Braun of Glen Burnie and Robert "Rock" Braun of Grasonville; and one sister, Monica Mathes of Severn.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road in Gambrills.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment is private.

Gertrude Campbell

Gertrude M. Campbell, a long time resident of Riva, died May 4 at Heritage Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation in Leesburg, Va. Mrs. Campbell was 100 years old.

She was born Oct. 31, 1907.

She volunteered with the Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary's Clothes Box at AAMC for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Campbell; and one daughter, Marjorie Ann Earnest.

Survivors include one son, G. Colin Campbell Jr.; one sister, Anna Monroe; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway in Falls Church, Va. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m.

Interment will be in National Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Auxiliary of Anne Arundel Medical Center, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Mildred Cook

Mildred Virginia "Mickie" Rice Cook, 89, of Edgewater died of natural causes April 19 at Telford Home in Mesa, Ariz.

Mrs. Cook was born July 13, 1918, in Clarendon, Va., to the late Ida Mae and Jessie Noble Rice.

She worked for Gould Electronics in Glen Burnie for 17 years as a secretary and manager of security, and as a docent at Londontowne Public House in Edgewater.

Mrs. Cook was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Annapolis for more than 25 years.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Raymond F. Cook; two daughters, Louise Wittman Roe of Costa Rica and Marjorie Roth of Chandler, Ariz.; one stepson, David E. Cook of Owings; one step-daughter, Dureda June Hackman of Ellicott City; one brother, Arthur "Bud" Rice of Oldsmar, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 16 at Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Drive. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice at VistaCare, Inc., 7310 N. 16th St., 170, Phoenix, AZ 85020.

Norvell Dennis

Norvell Maurice Dennis, 62, a lifelong resident of Shady Side, died May 2 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.

Mr. Dennis was born April 17, 1946, to Dorothea Dennis of Shady Side and the late Edward Dennis Sr. He graduated in 1964 from the former Wiley H. Bates High School and attended Morgan State University. He was employed as a manager in several retail stores and also worked at Westinghouse Defense.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Dennis enjoyed life, and especially enjoyed family gatherings and special times with his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Dennis, whom he married in 1972; one son, Von Franklin of Shady Side; one brother, Edward Dennis Jr. of Jessup; one sister, Sharon Dennis Jones of Hanover; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Family and friends may visit at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Franklin United Methodist Church, 5345 Deale-Churchton Road in Churchton. A Christian wake will follow at 10:30 a.m., and funeral services will begin at 11 a.m.

Interment will bes in the Griffin-Dennis Cemetery in Shady Side. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.

Dominick DiAiso

Dominick A. DiAiso, 96, of Mitchellville and formerly of Jersey City, N.J., died of natural causes May 4 at the Villa Rosa Nursing Home.

Mr. DiAiso was born July 4, 1911, to the late Joseph and Madeline DiAiso, and graduated from Dickinson High School and Hudson Business College.

He worked for many years in banking, and retired as the vice-president of Commercial Trust Co. of New Jersey.

Active in the Lion's Club, he was a former president of the Hudson County chapter and a continuing member into his 90s.He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jersey City, the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Crofton.

He was preceded in death in 2006 by his wife of 70 years, Marie M. Sarno DiAiso; and one granddaughter.

Survivors include one son, Robert J. DiAiso of Crofton; one daughter, Michele Stuart of Palm Coast, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 625 Pavonia Ave. in Jersey City.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Church, 3026 Kennedy Blvd. in Jersey City. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City.

Barbara Gregory

Barbara Ann Gregory, 66, a resident of Annapolis for 15 years and previously of Houston, died May 4 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Gregory was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Newport News, Va., to the late Gene and Catherine Archer. She earned a degree in political science from Tufts University; then earned her master's degree in child psychology from the University of Houston in 1984.

A homemaker, she enjoyed boating.

Survivors include her husband, whom she married in 1964, Fred Gregory; one son, Fred Gregory Jr. of Fairfax, Va.; one daughter, Heather Skeens of Fuquay Varina, N.C.; one brother, Gene Archer of Colorado; and four grandchildren.

Family and friends may visit from noon to 2 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Funeral services will follow at 2:15 p.m.

Interment will be at 3 p.m. June 3 in Arlington National Cemetery; those attending should meet at the administration building at 2:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation, 2001 Medical Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Marsha Kane

Marsha L. Kane, 58, of Punta Gorda, Fla., and formerly of Shady Side, died May 1 at Port Charlotte Regional Medical center with her family by her side after a long illness.

Mrs. Kane was born Nov. 7, 1949, in Syracuse, N.Y.

She became a realtor in 1977, and went on to become Agent of the Year and Top Selling Agent for Century 21/Schwartz Realty/H.T.Brown in Deale, where she worked for 15 years.

She was preceded in death by one son, John L. Kane II.

Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, John L. Kane; one son, Billy Thompson of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Kimberly Kane of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Kelly Hrina of Annapolis; one sister, Lynda Revetta of Orlando; and six grandchildren.

Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Kays-Ponger Funeral Home.

Michael Settle

Michael Carlton Settle, 41, of Lothian died suddenly May 1 at Washington Hospital Center.

Mr. Settle was born Aug. 18, 1966, in Washington, D.C., to Elizabeth Garner Settle of Lothian and the late Carlton Settle. He lived most of his life in Clinton.

He was a self-employed roofing contractor, specializing in metal roofing.

He enjoyed everything to do with nature, including boating, fishing and skiing. He was known for a charismatic personality, a fun loving and generous nature and a warm smile, according to his family.

Survivors include one daughter, Stephanie Settle of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; one brother, Steven Settle of Florida; and one sister, Carla Kimble of Lothian.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Lee Funeral Home, 6633 Old Alexandria Ferry Road in Clinton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 8908 Old Branch Ave. in Clinton.

Bruce Sypkens

Incorrect information was published in the obituary for Bruce Sypkens, 77, of Davidsonville in Monday's edition of The Capital.

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Joanna Sypkens; two daughters, Cathi Sypkens and Cari Frazier; and four grandsons.
