Today's obituaries recognize: Lillian Day, Lorraine Jones, Mary Read and Carol Turner.

Lillian Day

Lillian H. Day, 96, of Severna Park, died June 19 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mrs. Day was born March 1, 1912, in Severna Park to the late Charles and Alverta Hunt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison L. Day.

Survivors include one stepson, Herman White of Severna Park; and one stepdaughter, Lillian Hill of Severna Park.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wayman Good Hope A.M.E Church, 100 Hoyle Lane in Severna Park. Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.


Lorraine Jones

Lorraine Gertrude Jones, 89, a resident of Annapolis for over 85 years, died of natural causes June 6 at Crofton Convalescent Center.

Ms. Jones was born May 6, 1919, in Long Island, N.Y., to the late Capt. and Mrs. William H. Busch; she was raised in Annapolis.

She attended Business College in Baltimore and worked at the Board of Education in Annapolis.

She was witty and loved talking to people from her front porch on Market Street. She loved flowers and taking care of the 100-year-old roses in her backyard.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aldewyn Jones, who died in 1979.

Funeral services and interment were private. Arrangements were by Taylor Funeral Home.

Mary Read

Mary Svenberg Read, 84, of Irvington, Va., since 2006 and previously of Annapolis for 39 years, died suddenly June 18 at Rappa-hannock Gen-eral Hospital.

Mrs. Read was born July 3, 1923, in New London, Conn.

She served as a registered nurse during World War II.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, retired Coast Guard Capt. Garth H. Read; two sons, Michael Read of Vail, Colo., and Eric Read of Fairfax, Calif.; two daughters, Karen Geddes of Mathews, Va., and Betsy Rector of Queenstown; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, 132 Lancaster Drive in Irvington.

The committal service will be held at noon Tuesday at Christ Episcopal Church, 320 Williams Wharf Road in Mathews, Va. Arrangements are by Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Living Water Lutheran Church, 429 E. Church St., Kilmarnock, VA 22482 or Kingston Episcopal Parish, P. O. Box 471, Mathews, VA 23109.


Carol Turner

Carol Adamson Turner, 71, of Williamsburg, Va., for three years and previously of Odenton for 40 years, died June 18 at Medical College of Virginia after a brief illness.

Mrs. Turner was born Dec. 30, 1936, in Takoma Park to Geraldine Adamson of Williamsburg, and she graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, D.C.

She enjoyed cooking, gardening and volunteering. She was active in her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Reginald Turner.

Survivors include one son, Arthur Turner of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Marlene Turner of Baltimore; and one sister, Arlene Gordon of Williamsburg.

Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road in Gambrills.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Cemetery, 1110 St. Stephen's Church Road in Crownsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church, 1110 St. Stephen's Church Road, Crownsville, MD 21032.
