Fake drugs found

An Admiral Drive man was arrested Sunday after he ran away from Captains Circle, city police said.

At just after midnight, police went to investigate the report of an armed man. One man saw the patrol car and began jogging in the other direction. Police told him to stop and show his hands, and the man kept his hands near the waistband of his pants. One officer suspected he was reaching for a weapon and took him to the ground, police said.

They searched him and found a bag containing a white, rock-like substance which officers suspected was crack cocaine.

The fake drugs weighed 2.9 grams and if real would have a street value of $290. The drugs were packaged in a manner that looked like they were going to be sold, police said.

Wesley L. Tydings, 22, was charged with possession of counterfeit drugs, police said.

Underwear, electronics stolen

Someone stole electronics and underwear last month from a home on Bay Ridge Avenue, city police said.

The victim told police Saturday he noticed 10 white T-shirts and 10 pairs of underwear were missing from his home, along with a laptop computer and a digital camera. He said he first noticed the items were missing June 30.

The total value of the stolen items was $950, police said.

Grenade found

Two citizens turned in a hand grenade to the police department Sunday, city police said.

The citizens found the device, which they believed belonged to a relative, and brought it to the station at just after 5 p.m.

Officers shut down Taylor Avenue until the city Fire Department responded and took possession of the grenade for destruction, police said.

West County

Boating arrest

A Gambrills man was charged with operating a boat under the influence of alcohol on the South River Friday, Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police said.

At about 10:20 p.m. Russell C. Klaus, 44, was stopped near the South River Bridge for not displaying proper navigational lights on his boat.

During the investigation, police said they discovered Mr. Klaus had been drinking and charged him with alcohol and other boating violations, including failure to use proper navigational lights between sunset and sunrise.
