Saturday's obituaries recognize: Carmen Christian-Fowler, Carlester Jackson, Carleen Jones, Dorothy Lissau and William M. Showacre

Carmen Christian-Fowler 

Carmen Elaine Christian-Fowler, 61, a life-long resident of Crownsville, died of lung cancer Aug. 7 in her home after an illness lasting two years.

Mrs. Christian-Fowler was born Jan. 17, 1947, in Bluefield, Va., to the late Henry V. and Elaine P. Christian, and graduated from Arundel High School.

She worked for Vista Photography in Odenton for 25 years, and enjoyed photography.

She was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Nutter; and one sister, Carolyn S. Boyer.

Survivors include her husband of two years, Larry Fowler; her former husband, Bob Nutter; and one grandchild.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road in Gambrills.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Our Lady of the Fields Cemetery.

Carlester Jackson

Carlester Jackson, 52, a resident of Annapolis, died of unknown causes Aug. 3 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center.

Mr. Jackson was born July 23, 1956, to the late Bertha Jackson-Harris and James Jackson.

He graduated from Southern High School and served in the Maine Corps for five years, earning commendations for rifle sharper shooter, a National Defense Services Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He also received acknowledgements for professional chef and professional truck driver.

Mr. Jackson worked for Cen Tran for a year and loved traveling the country in his tractor trailer with his wife Victoria.

His hobbies included cooking, watching football, baseball, tennis, playing chess and he loved attending family gatherings and mentoring and tutoring his godchildren.

Survivors include his wife Victoria Jackson; two daughters, April Lipscomb of Baltimore and Tirra Pack of Glen Burnie; three sons, Jermaine Jackson, Carlester Jackson Jr. of College Park and Horace Fuller Jr.; six sisters, Louise Contee, Ruth Smith, Sarah Brice, Mary Jackson, Shirley Tongue and Dorothy Jackson; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his stepfather James Harris. one sister, Alice Wilson and one brother, James Jackson.

A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday followed by a Christian wake at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Community Church, 1800 Hall Brown Road. The funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville.

Carleen Jones

Carleen Marie Jones, 56, a resident of Annapolis, died Aug. 1 at the Washington Hospital Center.

Born Nov. 26, 1951, in Friendship, she was educated in the Anne Arundel County School system and employed as a certified nursing assistant with the ARC in Calvert County and the Department of Aging.

She loved to play bingo and was a Dallas Cowboy fan. She enjoyed listening to gospel music.

She is survived by two daughters; Anita Jones-Kerrick and Payton Harris; three sons, Dante Mitchell, Donte Mitchell and Rovin Smith; and 11 grandchildren.

A Christian wake will be held at 11 a.m. today and the funeral will follow at noon at Bethel Way of the Cross Church at 5445 Cherry Hill Road in Huntingtown.

Arrangements are by Reese and Sons Mortuary.

Dorothy Lissau

Incorrect information was published in an obituary for Dorothy Marquess Lissau, 78, of Severna Park in Wednesday's edition of The Capital.

Dr. Gene Trettin is not deceased and Mrs. Lissau was born in Prince Frederick.

William M. Showacre

Lt. Col. William M. Showacre, 87, a resident of Annapolis, died of congestive heart failure Aug. 6 at Marley Neck Health and Rehabilitation Center in Glen Burnie.

Lt. Col. Showacre was born in Baltimore on July 26, 1921, to William Russell and Genevieve Farnsworth Showacre.

He joined Army in 1943 and served during World War II and the Korean War. He received the Middle Eastern Service Medal and World War Victory Medal.

After retiring, he taught Industrial Arts in Annapolis for 22 years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis.

His interests included teaching sailing at the Annapolis Sailing School, being a Boy Scout Master, but most of all he enjoyed teaching junior rifle marksmanship to young people, building airplanes and his ferrets.

Friends are invited to a Life Celebration at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, 171 Duke of Gloucester St. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at 11 a.m. Dec. 1.
