Today's obituaries recognize: Jennifer Elwood and David Kimberly III. Jennifer Elwood Jennifer Lorenz Elwood, 44, a four-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Williamstown, N.J., died of breast cancer Sept. 3 in her home after an 18-month illness. Mrs. Elwood was born Dec. 27, 1963, in Camden, N.J., to Edith C. and James B. Lorenz of Mt. Ephraim, N.J. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from Leigh University in 1984, her master's degree in biology from Old Dominion University in 1988 and a doctorate degree from Drexel University in 2003. She was a biology professor at Anne Arundel Community College and, as a research scientist student, she studied salamander morphology and ecology. She was a member of The Society of Integrative and Comparative Biology and the Society for the Study of Amphibians and Reptiles. Survivors include her husband of more than 20 years, John Elwood; one son, Thomas Elwood of Annapolis; and one daughter, Cecilia Elwood of Annapolis. A celebration of her life will be held at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Blvd. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. Interment will be private. Arrangements are by Kalas Funeral Home. David Kimberly III David Kimberly III, 82, of Severna Park died Sept. 4 at Baltimore Washington Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Kimberly was born March 12, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., and was raised in Hot Springs, N.C. A retired NSA employee, he served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Annapolis Junction Sports and Touring Club and the Washington Rally Club. He was a sports car enthusiast and a friend of Bill W. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Shirley W. Kimberly; one son, David Whitten Kimberly of Arnold; one brother, George Kimberly of Knoxville, N.C.; one sister, Marguerite Hamet of Bluff, N.C.; and three grandchildren. Family and friends may visit at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Barranco and Sons Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Highway. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery in Madison County, N.C. at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alcoholics Anonymous, P.O. Box 459, New York, NY 10163. Online condolences may be made at www.barrancofuneralhome.com. |
