Tuesday's obituaries recognize: Michael Cullember, Godfrey Deininger, William Johnson Sr., David Kimberly, Frank McClanahan III, Jerry Taylor, David Richardson, Mary Ruch and James Teat Sr. Michael Cullember Michael Wayne Cullember, 50, of Port Republic and previously of Annapolis, died Sept. 6 in his home. Mr. Cullember was born April 4 1958, in Annapolis and completed 11th grade. He was a heavy equipment operator for Chaney Enterprises. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Cullember; two daughters, Hope Renee and Julie Ann Cullember of Broomes Island in Calvert County; three brothers, Donald R. Cullember of Shady Side and Thomas R. and Dennis G. Cullember of Cape Coral, Fla.; one sister, Barbara A. Phipps of Shady Side; and one granddaughter. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rausch Funeral Home, 4405 Broomes Island Road in Port Republic. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Broomes Island Wesleyan Church, 8520 Church Road. Interment will be in Chesapeake Highland Memorial Gardens. Godfrey Deininger Godfrey Elmer "Goddie" Deininger, 93, of Springfield, Va., for nine years and previously of Annapolis, died of natural causes Aug. 31 in his home. Mr. Deininger was born March 12, 1915, in Annapolis. He retired from the David Taylor Research Center, where he was a shop planner. Years ago, he was a foot police officer in Annapolis. He enlisted and served in the Army and was a member of the Annapolis Elks. He enjoyed golf. He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Dorothy Deininger; three brothers, George, Brother and Walter Deininger; and two sisters, Edith Sadler and Jane "Honey" Deininger. Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Thorpe of Springfield; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Internment will be in Cedar Bluff Cemetery in Annapolis. William Johnson Sr. William A. Johnson Sr., 76, a resident of Severna Park for over 50 years, died Sept. 7 in his home. Mr. Johnson was born May 31, 1932, in Baltimore, graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School and attended the University of Baltimore. He retired from Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. after 43 years of service, as a supervisor, lineman, trouble-man, designer and supervisor of commercial and industrial design. He served with the Navy Seabees during the Korean War, earning a Purple Heart. He also served as a master sergeant with the 121st Combat Engineer Battalion of the Maryland National Guard and in the Army Reserve. Local memberships included American Legion Post 175, Severna Park Elks, Stoney Creek Democratic Club, North Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce, Sunset Knoll Improvement Association, and Christ Lutheran Church. He enjoyed collecting military crests and history books, big band music, John Wayne movies, the beach and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia A. Johnson. Survivors include two sons, William A. Johnson Jr. of Annapolis and John J. Johnson of Severna Park; two daughters Lou Ellen Britt of Lawrence, Kan., and Vickie Lynn Schwant of Lothian; one brother, Anthony Johnson of Brandywine; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Family and friends may visit from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at McCully-Polyniak Funeral Home, 3204 Mountain Road in Pasadena. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday at the funeral home, and interment will be in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. David Kimberly A name was misspelled in the obituary for David Kimberly, 82, of Severna Park in The Sunday Capital. Survivors include his sister, Margubrite Hanitt of Bluff, N.C. Margaret Libson Margaret Segal Libson, 99, a resident of Annapolis for 25 years and previously of Pittsburgh, died of natural causes Sept. 1 at the Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood. Mrs. Libson was born Jan. 7, 1909, in Muncaz, Hungary, to the late Nathan and Rose Segal. She immigrated to the United States in 1914, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Education in 1930. Mrs. Libson worked as a high school English teacher for many years, serving as president of the Allegheny County, Pa., Commission for the Public Schools, and was a delegate to the 1960 White House Conference on Children and Youth. She was an active community volunteer, working with many different Jewish organizations around Pittsburgh. She helped found a Jewish community newspaper, and was awarded the Hannah G. Solomon Award by the National Council of Jewish Women in Pittsburgh in 1975. In Annapolis, she was a member of the Annapolis Section of the NCJW and the Brandeis National Committee. Survivors include two sons, Franklin Libson of Franklin Park Borough, Pa., and Robert Libson of Annapolis; one daughter, Nancy Libson of Annapolis; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 17 at Temple Beth Shalom, 1461 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. in Arnold. Frank McClanahan III Frank Bradlyn "Brad" McClanahan III, 57, a resident of Cape St. Claire for 50 years, died of heart failure Sept. 7 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Mr. McClanahan was born Dec. 26, 1950, in Washington, D.C. He owned and operated Gotcha' Covered, an upholstery business. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post 175 and was a proud Republican. He loved politics, his family and his country and enjoyed golf. Survivors include his wife of almost 22 years, Ellen J. Puhlfurst McClanahan; three daughters, Cindy Adele McClanahan of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Shannon Grace and Meghan Christine McClanahan of Cape St. Claire; one brother, Daniel McClanahan of Seaford, Del.; four sisters, Sharon McClanahan of York, Pa., Kathy Koski of Leesburg, Va., Kristi Jenkins of Delmar in Wicomico County and Debbie McBane of Brimley, Mich.; and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Covenant Church, 365 Jones Station Road in Arnold; a reception will follow. Interment will be private. Jerry Taylor Jerry Wayne Taylor, 65, of Gambrills since 1976, died Sept. 8 at Crofton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Mr. Taylor was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Alabama to Pearl L. Taylor of Oakland in Garrett County and the late Francis L. Taylor. He retired as president of Plymouth Printing in Washington, D.C., after 44 years. He was a member of the Glen Burnie Moose Lodge, and enjoyed fishing, crafts and animals. Survivors include three sons, Bryan Taylor of Crofton and Darren and Sean Taylor of Gambrills; two brothers, Larry Taylor of Frederick and Michael Taylor of Oakland; and four grandchildren. Family and friends may visit at 7 p.m. Friday at Hardesty Funeral Home, 851 Annapolis Road in Gambrills, followed by a memorial service at 8 p.m. Interment is private. Mr. Richardson was born Aug. 9, 1950, in Maryland. Survivors include his girlfriend of 20 years, Karen Mussleman; one daughter, Devin Strumsky; three brothers, Carlos, Michael and Bobby Richardson; and two grandsons. A farewell gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Herald Harbor Community Center, 390 Hall Road in Crownsville. Mary Ruch Mary Caroline "Billie" Henry Ruch, 98, of Annapolis died Sept. 2 at Heritage Harbour Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Ruch was born May 2, 1910, in Washington, D.C. A homemaker and volunteer, she worked as a fashion model in her young years. She canvassed for the Democratic Party in Chevy Chase, led bird walks with the Audubon Society and served as a docent at the William Paca House in Annapolis. A skilled seamstress, she worked with the American Friends Service Committee, making quilts and restoring used clothes to be sent overseas, and was a member of the committee when it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She enjoyed gardening, creating gardens in her retirement home in the Bahamas and again in Annapolis. She loved birds and cats, studying opera and French, and playing pool. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Devillo Ruch. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in Washington, D.C. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403; or to the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., 7th floor, New York, NY 10014. James Teat Sr. James Edward Teat Sr., 52, a resident of Glen Burnie for 10 years and previously of Annapolis, died of injuries suffered in a car accident Sept. 4 in Annapolis. Mr. Teat was born April 7, 1956, in Annapolis to Melvania Teat of Annapolis and the late Clayton Teat, and attended high school. He worked for Tool World at Lowes for a year and a half. He was a member of North Arundel Church, and enjoyed playing the guitar, motorcycles and the Holy Smoke Band. Survivors include his wife of three years, Nancy Teat; one son, James Teat Jr. of Hagerstown; one brother, William Teat of Annapolis; three sisters, Mildred Hall of Delaware, Doris Sullivan of Lexington Park, and Debbie White of Annapolis; and one grandchild. A memorial gathering will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday at North Arundel Church, 7610 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. in Glen Burnie, and a memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. Arrangements are by McNabb Funeral Home. |
