Obituaries for October 5

Today's obituries recognize Margaret Griggs and Margaret Sullivan.

Margaret A. Griggs, 98, a resident of Annapolis for 43 years, died of complications from dementia Oct. 3 at her home.

Mrs. Griggs was born Sept. 8, 1910, in Baltimore to the late John F. and Margaret M. Aumiller.

She was a member of Hillsmere Garden Club, an avid golfer and a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ellen Alexanderwicz.

Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Griggs Johnson of Annapolis; one brother, J. Robert Aumiller of Baltimore; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Neumann Roman Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road. Interment is private.

Margaret Sullivan

Margaret Young Sullivan, 92, of Severna Park and formerly of Norwich, Conn., died of natural causes Oct. 1 at Severn Assisted Living.

Mrs. Sullivan was born Aug. 2, 1916, in Norwich, Conn., to the late Daniel C. and Ann Doyle Young.

She was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy, Connecticut College for Women and the Teachers College of Connecticut.

She was a member of the faculties of Williams Memorial Institute in New London, Conn., and Kelly Junior High School in Norwich.

Mrs. Sullivan was affiliated with the Sykes Society at Connecticut College. She was also a past Diocesan President of the Council of Catholic Women and served on the advisory board of Catholic Charities and on the board of the Eliza Huntington Home.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick Cathedral and a member of the Rosary Society at St. Patrick's.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Sullivan; two brothers, Dr. Daniel D. Young and John D. Young; and one sister, Mary Virginia Marchese.

Survivors include four sons, James T. Sullivan Jr. of Severna Park, Dr. Daniel Y. Sullivan of McLean, Va., John P. Sullivan of Bozrah, Conn,. and Richard M. Sullivan of Pittsfield, Mass.; one daughter, Rosemary S. VanGraafeiland of Middletown, Conn.; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will take place during a memorial Mass at 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich, Conn., on followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Cathedral School, 211 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360.

Arrangements are by Godere Funeral Home in Taftville, Conn.
