Drug arrest

A city man was arrested Monday after police pulled over the car he was in and allegedly found drugs in his pocket, city police said.

At about 7:30 p.m., police made a traffic stop on a Lincoln Town Car at Northwest and Calvert streets. While citing the driver, an officer noticed that a rear passenger had a clear plastic bag protruding from his pocket, police said.

A drug detection dog alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the car. Officers later removed the passenger, Curtis J. Johnson, 27, of Central Street, from the car and he tried to run, police said.

They found 9.7 grams of crack cocaine, which has a street value of $970, and 47 grams of marijuana, which has a street value of $470, police said.

Mr. Johnson was charged with two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute, two counts of drug possession and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

South County

Man burned

A Shady Side man, 20, was transported to a local burn center with second- and third-degree burns on about 20 percent of his body Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to a house on Spring Avenue in Shady Side for reports of a burn victim. A state police helicopter transported him to Washington Hospital Center.

The victim was apparently breathing without difficulty and was conscious, but complained of intense pain, according to emergency radio reports. His name was not available.

There were reports of a bonfire at the scene and fire department investigators were dispatched to determine the cause of the accident.

North County

Gas station robbed

A Linthicum gas station was robbed late Sunday night, county police said.

At 11:45 p.m. two men in a newer-model, small silver car pulled up to the Citgo gas station at 722 Hammons Ferry Road. They walked into the gas station and asked the clerk, 46, for gas. The clerk opened the cash register, and one man walked behind the counter and, at gunpoint, demanded cash. He took cash from the register. The men also took the clerk's cell phone, ran out of the store, jumped into the silver vehicle and turned left onto West Nursery Road.

The clerk was not injured.

The men are described as black, 6 feet tall, with thin builds. Each wore black clothing and a black hat.

Man carjacked

A man was robbed and carjacked after he gave a ride to another man in Glen Burnie Saturday afternoon, county police said.

He was walking in a Wal-Mart parking lot when a man asked him for a ride to Pataspco Avenue in Baltimore, said Justin Mulcahy, a county police spokesman.

The man agreed, but during the drive, they got into an argument. At just after 2 p.m., the passenger asked the driver to drop him off at the side of Route 10 near Ordnance Road. The driver pulled over and the passenger assaulted him, took his wallet and pushed him out of the car, police said.

The passenger jumped into the driver's seat and drove off in the 1994 red Honda and left the driver at the side of the road.

The driver was taken to Harbor Hospital in Baltimore where he was treated for facial injuries. The victim's name was not available.
