ANNAPOLIS AREA

Cyclist injured

A Bowie resident was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore on Saturday night after being ejected from his motorcycle on Forest Drive, city police said.

Officers said the driver, Michael Daryl Anthony, was traveling westbound on Forest Drive at 9:44 p.m. when Annapolis resident Laverne Easton made a left turn from an eastbound lane and into the motorcycle's path, police said.

Anthony left a 50-foot skid mark while trying avoid hitting Easton's vehicle.

Officials at shock trauma on Monday said Anthony remains in serious condition.

Scooter wreck

While merging into Westgate Circle on Saturday morning, the driver of a scooter lost control and hit the curb, city police said.

Officers said Annapolis resident Shelia Brown was ejected from the scooter around 8:54 a.m.

She was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis with a knee injury, and hospital officials said Brown has since been discharged.

Bicyclist hurt

A bicyclist was traveling down Annapolis Street on Saturday morning when the driver of a parked Toyota Corolla opened her door and struck the bike, city police said.

The bicyclist, Darby Driscoll, was thrown from her bike at 10:56 a.m. and transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center, police said.

Hospital officials said Driscoll has been discharged.

Trio assaulted

An Annapolis man allegedly under the influence of PCP crashed a car into a mailbox and a parked vehicle, then assaulted a woman and her two juvenile cousins before passing out in a ditch Monday, city police said.

Officers said Paris Kaleb Smith, 21, struck a cluster of mailboxes at 9:16 p.m. Monday in Marcs Court. With the door of the Ford Crown Victoria still open, Smith then hit a parked and unoccupied vehicle on Newtowne Drive, according to police.

Officers said Smith fled the vehicle and went to a playground between Brooke and Betsy courts, where he grabbed two juvenile females around the waist and shoved a woman after she confronted him. When officers found Smith passed out in a ditch, he woke up and began yelling obscenities and attempted to get away, police said.

Police said Smith was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center and a warrant was obtained for him on two second-degree assault charges and seven traffic charges stemming from the two hit-and-runs.

Boaters rescued

The Coast Guard rescued two people from a disabled powerboat in the Chesapeake Bay near the Bay Bridge on Monday afternoon, according to Coast Guard officials.

Coast Guard crew said Baltimore resident Thomas Hollerbach, 50, and his child were stranded on their 28-foot pleasure craft in the shipping channel around 1:40 p.m. Monday.

Coast Guard officials said the Chris-Craft was towed and there were no reports of injuries.

Tools taken

City police officials said more than $500 worth of tools was stolen from Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard on First Street in Eastport on Saturday.

Officers said the tools, which included two DeWalt 18-volt drills and a DeWalt angle grinder, were taken from the yard's boat tent.

South county

Driver injured

A woman was flown to a hospital Monday afternoon after a two-car crash in Deale, county police said.

Emergency responders were called to Deale Churchton Road and Rodgers Road at 4:19 p.m. for a two-car collision and found one person, a 45-year-old woman, trapped inside a vehicle.

Firefighters were able to get the woman, Karen Patton of Lothian, out of the car, and she was taken by helicopter to Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A police investigation showed that Patton was driving south in her Chevrolet Cavalier when she crossed the double-yellow line and hit a Chevrolet 3500 van that was headed north. It does not appear that alcohol or speed were a factor, said Justin Mulcahy, a county Police Department spokesman.

The driver of the van was identified as Jeff Small, 31, of Deale.

The road closed at 4:25 p.m. and remained closed for about an hour while crews cleared the scene. It took around 20 minutes to get the woman out of the crushed car, police said.

North county

Trio robs teen girl

Three people robbed a 14-year-old girl in Glen Burnie on Tuesday morning after she refused to let a stranger use her cell phone.

The girl was walking on Ritchie Highway near Aquahart Road at 11:16 a.m. when a woman asked to use her phone. When the teen refused, the suspect pulled out a handgun and took the victim's phone and purse. The suspect then got into a four-door, gold vehicle and drove north.

A police official said the victim described one of the suspects as a white woman in her late teens, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with a thin build, red hair and wearing a light T-shirt and tan pants. Another suspect was a black woman, also in her late teens. She was wearing a dark T-shirt and is about 5 feet 4 inches tall with a heavy build. The victim could not determine the gender of the third suspect, but said the person had a thin build and was wearing a white T-shirt and black pants.

Shoplifting caper

Four people were arrested for shoplifting from the K-Mart in Pasadena on Tuesday night.

County police were called to the store on the 8000 block of Ritchie Highway at 7:15 p.m. Police said one of the suspects had stuffed merchandise into her backpack and then tossed the bag over a fence as she left the K-Mart. Officers searched the area and were able to locate four suspects.

Further investigation revealed that two of the suspects were suspected of stealing form the department store the day before, said Justin Mulcahy, a county Police Department Spokesman.

William Emory Jenkins, 36, and from of the 4400 block of Norfen Road in Halethorpe was charged with felony theft as was Charlotte Jenkins, 35, and of 17 Locust Path Court in Halethorpe.

Stephen Palmer, 28, and Heather Wilson, 21, both from Martinsburg, W.Va., were charged with misdemeanor theft.

Attempted robbery

Police are looking for two men they said robbed two people early Friday morning as they walked on Gatewater Court in Glen Burnie.

The victims said they were walking in the area at 2:23 a.m. when three men approached them. One had a tire iron, another pulled out a BB gun or pistol, and they demanded money, police said.

They weren't able to get anything of value and they left in a white Pontiac Grand Am or Grand Prix that had three females waiting inside.

One of the robbers was described as black, 6 feet 1 inch tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans and black tennis shoes, police said. Another suspect was described as black, 5 feet 6 inches tall to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a thin build and wearing all black clothing.

Descriptions were not available for the third man or the women in the car.

Assault, robbery

Two men robbed another man late Saturday night as he walked in the 6900 block of Ritchie Highway near the Glen Ridge Apartments in Glen Burnie, county police said.

Police were called to Baltimore Washington Medical Center at 3:13 a.m. Sunday for the report of the assault. The victim said he was walking on Ritchie Highway at 11:30 p.m. Saturday when two men approached him. One of the men held a knife and punched the victim. He then took the victim's money, police said.

The victim was cut on the hand during the scuffle.

Descriptions of the robbers were vague.

Theft arrests

Two men were arrested Friday morning after police said they stole cable and tools from a Comcast van in Glen Burnie, county police said.

Officers were called to the Chesapeake Glen Apartments in the 8000 block of Greenleaf Terrace at about 4 a.m. for the report of people tampering with cars. They soon located men matching the witness' description and found work items such as cable and tools in their car, police said.

They also saw a Comcast work van nearby that had been tampered with. The driver of the van positively identified the tools and the men were arrested.

Terelle Rich, 23, of Greenbelt, and Christopher Ross, 26, of Laurel Bowie Road in Laurel, were both charged with theft over and under $500 and possession of burglary tools, police said.

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY
