Graffiti incidents

A wave of graffiti has been reported in Annapolis over the past few days:

Someone spray painted four locations near the Safeway on Forest Drive overnight Monday, city police said.

Officers were called to the area at 11 a.m. Tuesday and found graffiti on the Safeway, a privacy fence on Bywater Road, the Annapolis Walk Community Park and a residence on Peters Way, police said.

The damage happened between 8:30 p.m. Monday and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Someone spray painted two locations in the 2100 block of Forest Drive over the weekend, city police said.

Officers were called to the area at about 9 a.m. Monday and found graffiti on a retention wall and more on the Colonial Parole Shopping Center around the corner. Police believe the damage happened between 5 p.m. Friday and Monday morning.

Someone sprayed graffiti at locations on and near Jefferson Street in the early morning hours Friday, city police said.

A resident called police at 10:20 a.m. to report graffiti on a concrete wall in a yard, and the officer noticed several cars and the sidewalk also were vandalized.

Tips taken

A man was arrested Tuesday after police said he tried to take money from the tip jar at Kilwin's on Main Street.

Officers on foot patrol were approached by an employee of the store at 8:40 p.m. for the reported theft. The employee said the man came in, reached into the tip jar and grabbed a handful of cash, then left the store.

Officers were able to find a man matching the thief's description at Compromise and St. Mary's streets, and employees positively identified him.

James Allan Thomas, 39, of no fixed address, was charged with the theft of $19, police said.

Man assaulted

A city resident was assaulted Monday as he rode his bike on Copeland Street, city police said.

The victim, a 44-year-old man, told police he was riding his bike near Copeland and Royal streets at about 3 p.m. when a man approached him and demanded the bike. The victim refused and the man punched him in the mouth, then pushed him to the ground, all the while trying to pull the bike away, police said.

Finally, the would-be robber ran off toward Bywater Road. Officers weren't able to find the man, who was described as a black man wearing a long-sleeved black shirt, gray or dark-colored sweatpants and a dark-colored mask, police said.

The victim refused medical treatment.

Cabbie robbed

A cab driver was robbed Saturday in the Annapolis area, county police said.

The 56-year-old driver of Yellow Checker Cab of Annapolis had been called to Roosevelt Drive off Bestgate Road near Bestgate Park about 8:30 p.m. to pick up a fare.

When he arrived, two men walked up to the cab from both sides, pointed a sawed-off shotgun and semiautomatic pistol at him, and demanded his money. The men grabbed the cab driver's cash and cell phone before running away, police said.

Residents in the area told officers they did not call for a taxicab, leading police to believe the cab driver was set up.

The robbers are described as black, between 16 and 20 years old, and were both wearing all black clothing.

Home burglarized

Someone broke into a home on Fairview Avenue last week and stole a gaming system, city police said.

The victim, a 44-year-old man, told police his Sony PlayStation system, valued at $850, was taken between Oct. 3 and Friday.

Sign stolen

Someone stole an election sign and damaged another one promoting Republican mayoral candidate Dave Cordle, city police said.

Officers were called to the election office on Chinquapin Round Road on Friday. Cordle told them one 4-foot-by-8-foot sign was stolen from Hilltop Lane and Tyler Avenue, and another near Chinquapin Round Road and Drew Street was damaged. The incidents happened between Oct. 2 and Oct. 5, police said.

The signs were valued at $100 each, police said.

Bag stolen

Someone stole a bag containing a camera and money Thursday from the bar at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront hotel, city police said.

The victim, a 52-year-old woman from Pennsylvania, said she was at the bar at about 4 p.m. Her bag was on the back of her chair. She turned around briefly to talk to someone, and when she looked 10 minutes later, the bag was gone.

The bag contained a $1,400 camera, a Kate Spade wallet containing $600 in cash, a cell phone, and credit and identification cards, police said.

NORTH COUNTY

Bus accident

A county school bus was struck head-on in Pasadena this morning, county school officials said.

The bus was carrying 25 students to Chesapeake High School about 6:50 a.m. when a vehicle struck the front of the bus in the 4600 block of Mountain Road.

No one was injured in the crash and all students arrived at school on time and were in class following the crash.

No further details were available.

KFC robbed

Two teenage boys robbed a Linthicum fast-food restaurant Friday night, county police said.

Employees of the Kentucky Fried Chicken at 708 Nursery Road told police they were just about to close the dining area about 10:20 p.m. when the teens walked into the restaurant, pulled their shirts over their faces and ordered the manager to open the safe.

One teen walked with the manager to the safe while the other went to the kitchen, pointed a black revolver at employees and ordered them to the floor, police said. Both teens grabbed cash from the safe, jumped over the counter and ran from the store, dropping coins along the way.

They were last seen running east across the parking lot.

Both were described as black with light complexions, in their mid to late teens, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with thin builds. One of the teens was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and the other a green hooded sweatshirt. Both teens wore black gloves.

Drug arrest

A teenage boy was charged with drug possession Sunday after county police found heroin while checking a vehicle in Glen Burnie.

Officers were called to Elvaton Court near Elvaton Road about 7:30 p.m. to check on a vehicle that had four young men inside. As police approached the vehicle, the four young men got out and ran. Three of them got to a wooded area and escaped, but a fourth listened to officers and walked back to the car.

Police searched the area where the fourth young man last stopped and found a baggie containing 23 glass vials of heroin.

The vehicle was seized and the 16-year-old boy was charged as a juvenile with drug possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia. The three young men who were with the teen have not been identified and the case remains under investigation.
