Three early-morning crashes in the county sent six people to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Friday, county police and fire officials said.
The crashes took place within two hours during morning rush hour.
At just after 8 a.m., the driver of a blue Ford Escort lost control of the vehicle while traveling on the ramp from Nursery Road to Interstate 695 in Linthicum, county police said.
The Ford crossed the roadway, went down a gully and struck a fence, according to preliminary police reports. A 25-year-old man suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the shock trauma center, said Lt. Keith Hamilton, a county Fire Department spokesman. No other injuries were reported.
About 10 minutes earlier, a woman was critically injured and three men were seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash near the Gambrills post office, Hamilton said.
Police said a Honda CRV, Acura sedan and Toyota Sienna minivan collided at Route 175 near Gambrills Road.
A 50-year-old woman was flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to the shock trauma center with life-threatening injuries, Hamilton said. Three men, ages 24, 28 and 35, were taken by ambulance to the shock trauma center with serious injuries that were not considered life threatening, he said.
Route 175 was shut down until 10:20 a.m. while police investigated and cleared the scene, police said.
Witnesses at the crash site said the three men were rescued from the green Acura and the woman was pulled from the sport utility vehicle.
And at 6:19 a.m. Friday, a man was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Edwin Raynor Boulevard.
The crashed happened near the exit ramp to Route 100 and involved a white Ford pickup and a Honda Accord, preliminary police reports say.
A 67-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the shock trauma center with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, Hamilton said. A second person, whose gender and age were unavailable, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with minor injuries, he said.
Edwin Raynor Boulevard northbound was reduced to one lane and traffic going southbound was rerouted to Route 100 for about an hour, police said.
The names and updated conditions of those injured in the accidents were not available.
