Man gets 10 years for bike theft

Capital Gazette Communications
Published 01/09/10

A county Circuit Court judge sentenced a Baltimore gang member to 10 years in prison for stealing four motorcycles - including one prized trophy bike - over the summer from outside the Davidsonville home of motocross superstar Travis Pastrana.

The theft prompted the 26-year-old X Games phenom to close his property to the general public.

"He always had an open-door policy for people to come and enjoy themselves and all of the facilities," Robert Pastrana, Travis' father, said Monday in county Circuit Court in Annapolis, according to a recording of the proceedings. "(But) all of that has changed. When he is...

As I keep repeating, if you employ name calling your comment is going to be deleted - no further consideration is given. We encourage debate, but keep it civil.
We encourage users to comment with real names, however we've dropped that as a requirement.

Fred - 2010-01-09 15:41:43

I would remove any comments that Fred Schubbie makes, it's obviously a fake account and I keep seeing it online. He comments the most and his comments are always in poor taste. I would suggest that The Capital remove his account. Here it is below.

Travis's responsibility - 2010-01-09 15:27:12

Travis over-reacted. I expect more from a boy like Travis really. he should have embraced the alleged-thief and given the man a job and perhaps featured him in one of his MTV shows. It would make Travis appear like a real hero, not an embittered victim. Travis, step up to the plate my dear boy and do the right thing. Don't feed the fear.

Warm Fuzzy - 2010-01-09 15:05:02

Yes, reading this gave me a good feeling. Not Travis' loss, but the stiff sentence that was handed to the worthless trash that took the bikes. This is probably the same clan that stole bikes from friends of mine in the same area. I have no use for delinquent individuals that have no respect for property or life. No excuses...rack em, stack em and burn em.

converse shoes - 2010-01-09 14:18:01

Actually both the fact that they're red & Converses makes them a gang symbol - gangs like the star on the shoe (matches the star symbol many gangs favor) and then often buy the Converse variety that matches their 'colors.' Read around, other gang symbols include the Playboy bunny, the BK from Burger King, and many of the pro sports team logos and colors.

gang symbol - 2010-01-09 13:05:28

Your right I was unaware that , I am a blue blood afterall, that red shoes were a "Bloods" gang symbol. I was of the opinion that the writer of this piece was simply objecting to the fashion choices of the defendant. However, now that I am aware that RED SHOES symbolize a gang I am still shocked to see that not only is the sentence too light, but that there is no dress code for litigants. I mean, did you know an orange jumpsuit and handcuffs are a symbol of being in the State's custody ? Never under estimate the subliminal messages we send by our dress.

Thanks to all who help me see.

stanley - 2010-01-09 11:11:10

Shubbie's comments often drip of sarcasm, but are not 'jokes.' Based on others 'he' has made, I don't think he was joking, rather aiming a hand slap to the writer from someone that doesn't understand gang symbols and why that item would be specifically singled out and mentioned. If he understood that it was symbol, he wouldn't have made the comment. It's dumb either way you look at it.
