Dems offer compromise on immigrant driver's licensesPublished 02/22/06
Several House Democrats are backing a plan to create special driving certificates for illegal immigrants that couldn't be used to board airplanes, enter military installations or gain access to bank accounts. The compromise seeks to bridge a gap between opponents and supporters of a bill sponsored by Del. Herb McMillan, R-Annapolis, that would prohibit undocumented workers from getting a driver's license. "We need to get off the stick here and solve the problem," Del. Anthony G. Brown, D-Prince George's, said yesterday at a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.
