Owens will run against Schaefer: Will seek comptroller seat

County Executive Janet S. Owens said this morning that she’ll challenge Maryland political legend William Donald Schaefer for the state comptroller post.

“I think with my eight years in Anne Arundel County and my background, I am well-suited for that position,” said Ms. Owens, who added that she’ll formally kick off her campaign early next week.

The race will pit Ms. Owens against the man she once called “Mr. Democrat” as she tries to start a new chapter in her political career.

“I feel settled in my stomach,” she said. “It’s the same feeling I had when I decided to run for county executive.”
