Beginning last week, anyone taken into custody for burglary and serious crimes such as arson, child abuse, abduction, and rape, is now required to submit a DNA sample upon arrest and charging.
In the past, DNA samples had only been drawn from those convicted of violent crimes, said Elena Russo, a state police spokesman.
