State shifting some inmates, guards to cut costsPublished 01/08/09
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Maryland's prison agency said Wednesday it is consolidating some of its prerelease operations in an effort to reduce overtime costs.
By concentrating inmates who are nearing release at fewer minimum-security facilities, the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services aims to free up correctional officers for transfer to medium- and maximum-security prisons with high overtime costs, agency spokesman Rick Binetti said.
