ANNAPOLIS — A Maryland board approved spending $14.4 million Wednesday to buy more than 4,700 acres of privately owned forest land in Worcester County, a deal that has been questioned because of its cost at a time when the state is facing a budget crisis. Find Us On Facebook
The Board of Public Works voted unanimously to approve the land purchase, which will be paid for with about $9.3 million from Maryland's Program Open Space, a program aimed at conservation that is funded by the state's real estate transfer tax. About $5.1 million comes from federal money.
