The bill, introduced by Sen. Rob Garagiola, D-Montgomery, would require that parents provide health care for their children and allow families who make more than 300 percent of the federal poverty level -- about $66,000 a year for a family of four -- to buy into the Maryland Children's Health Program.

Insurance for All - 2009-03-05 10:35:09

While they are at it, why don't they make it so that individuals cannot be turned down for insurance because of pre-existing conditions. My Crohn's Disease makes me uninsurable, even though my Disease requires insurance -- my surgery in October ran over $40k. There is no way I can pay that but I would happily pay $300/mo. (or more) for individual coverage if anybody would take me. The purpose of insurance is defeated if you get to pick and choose who you cover.
