All the candidates have been invited to participate in a community forum at 7 p.m. tonight at Southern High School in Harwood. Under the County Charter, the six current members of the County Council will then select a candidate in a public process on Monday night.

The new council member would arrive as the council weighs Anne Arundel County's once-a-decade plan for growth and whether to permit the state's largest casino at Arundel Mills mall.

Michael E. Malone For County Counci - 2009-07-12 16:56:43

While I do not personally know Michael E. Malone, his experience in labor relations and accounting could greatly help the County Council. The cost of the benefit packages for the members of the Police and Fire unions is out of control. Their benefits will cause a tax increase to fund the unfunded liability of these pension funds. Mr. Malone should be able to analyze the different benefit packages and get legislation passed to scrap the existing system for all new hires.

Tricia Johnson for Council? - 2009-07-08 11:50:38

Good grief! The last thing we need in a council member is a school board member who conducts meetings in secret, oversees an agency which is accountable to no one, refuses to comply with Maryland Public Information Act Requests and would represent more of the same dysfunction that governs 50% of the County's budget.
