Md. seeks to strengthen boating lawsPublished 09/24/09
The state Department of Natural Resources will ask state lawmakers to strengthen life-preserver laws in light of a high number of boating fatalities this year. So far this year, 15 people have died on state waterways, tying the highest number since 2000. In 2008, there were nine fatalities. The state averages 12 boating-related fatalities a year. None of the fatalities occurred in Anne Arundel County. The proposed bill is part of a three-bill package designed to enhance safety on the water.
