A bill already filed by Del. Ron George, R-Arnold, for the General Assembly session that begins next month would prevent a slots facility from being located within 1,000 feet of a shopping center, church, community center, playground or school. The only locations that would get a pass from those limits would be existing horse racetracks.
But if passed, the legislation would affect only slots locations that have not already received a license...

wasn't buyer remorse or bait and switch, the people voted on something they did not read or think out side the box. Cordish was thinking outside the box. Magna was the front runner for the racetrack and they had $$$ problems and Cordish stepped up to the plate. If you are mad at anyone be mad with Magna cause if they were still in this it would be at the track.

Don't speak for me - 2009-12-03 08:26:07
The same names, different day. To call the proposal "unpopular" is 100% dishonest. If you can remember last year, the "proposal" passed the state with 59% of the vote (that is a majority). Now some of you are trying to make excuses as to why it passed? Blaming the vote passed due to voter ignorance! How about the Presidential election on the same day? Do you believe was President elected due to voter ignorance? Its insulting, and you do not speak for me or many of the residents in the area surrounding the mall. Sadly, the Dec 7th rally will be the same small core group of about 30 people speaking for a community of thousands.

Buyers remorse - 2009-12-02 14:55:51
I suspect most voters thought they were voting to allow slots at race tracks and off-site betting locations. Upon seeing slots at, or near, shopping malls and near communities, those voters may have realized themselves victims of a bait-and-switch type of scheme. By then, it would be too late. Thank you Delegate George for standing up and casting light on this issue!
