The Video Lottery Facility Location Commission awarded the slots license to The Cordish Cos. in a 5-2 vote. The company's controversial proposal would place 4,750 machines next to the shopping destination.
Donald Fry, chairman of the commission, described it as a "cutting-edge proposal." The state estimates that by 2016 the facility will generate about $500 million a year and create thousands of jobs.
