Jay Apperson, a spokesman for the Maryland Department of the Environment, said earlier this month that the agency has prepared a draft permit allowing Constellation Energy to dump fly ash - a byproduct of its two coal-fired plants in Pasadena - at an existing landfill at Millennium Inorganic Chemicals in Baltimore.
The MDE will hold a hearing on the matter at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Curtis Bay Recreation Center to take comments from area residents. The state's formal 30-day comment period began March 3, Apperson said, and residents can...

Constellation Energy is - 2010-03-17 01:27:11
an unreliable partner. They have been ripping off the consumers in MD ever since the legislature was duped into de-regulation.
Mark is right! The company's bottom line is the only thing that matters. It was cheap change to pay a fine and settle with neighbors in comparison to the money made by cheap, dangerous disposal of fly ashe. The MDE has no real scientific evidence that using fly ashe in building materials is safe. That's what they once told us about lead in paint. And now we know many children suffered needlessly because of that error in judgement. The first obligation of the legislature and in particular the MDE is to keep the public safe. There is no excuse for their NIMBY mentality that has proven dangerous to citizens for years. In this case the MDE needs to pay more attention to the unintended consequences of their arrogance to cooperate with industry instead and dismiss legitimate public safety concerns.

Constellation doesnt care... - 2010-03-15 20:12:33
thats the bottom line.
I attended one of these meetings. By the end of the meeting the constellation reps became condescending and it was clear that they just didnt care about our concerns.
As long as the state says its ok... thats all they care about.
They surveyed "dozens" of sites... and coincidentally this site proved to be the best one!
How convenient.
Not to mention these meeting are being held in Baltimore city.... when anne arundel county residents and commuters are the ones truly being affected by this.
but really... what can we do. No matter how many meetings homeowners attend theres nothing that can be done. And constellation knows this.
constellation sucks...
