Each year, the organization Friends of Joe Cannon Stadium holds a banquet to honor local high school baseball players and present three of them with substantial scholarships. The group that was formed as a means of maintaining the outstanding baseball facility in Harmans has evolved into one that promotes and supports academic and athletic excellence for scholastic baseball players in Anne Arundel County. One of the key aspects of the organization is promoting sportsmanship among the student-athletes.
