Florida State rescinds Hibbs' scholarship offerPublished 03/06/08
Arundel High School ace pitcher Tyler Hibbs won't be playing baseball for Florida State University next season.
Due to last week's arrest on drug-dealing charges, Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman and baseball coach Mike Martin decided to pull Hibbs' scholarship for the 2008-09 season yesterday.
"I met with Randy yesterday, and based on the police report and related information available to me at the present time, we are rescinding our baseball scholarship offer to Tyler Hibbs," Martin said in a statement. Calls to Hibbs' house in Odenton were not returned yesterday. A county police...

What's wrong AA schools - March 10, 2008
Again, Anne Arundel County Schools sends the wrong message to students. How can they allow this student to stay on the team? He is lucky that he is not in jail. At least FSU was smart enough to do the right thing. Let's see if the school board wakes up. If not, I will lead the protests in the stands come opening day. A concerned parent.

Sad and Stupid - March 10, 2008
So this young adult has basically just ruined his life. It's too bad that he did not have the brains to stick to baseball. Must be all that pot smoking. Regardless of his stupidity, it is sad that it has come to this. Hope others can learn a lesson from this.

Second Chances... - March 8, 2008
Let me tell you a story of second chances. When I was in the military, a young soldier in my unit tested positive for using drugs. He pleaded with the battalion commander that he be given a second chance; the commander agreed as long as the soldier went through counseling, which he did. On a subsequent test, the soldier once again tested positive and was booted out of the military. The commander henceforth GAVE NO MORE SECOND CHANCES TO ANY SOLDIER. Zero tolerance is a tough route to take but with all the second chances given and wasted, officials can't be bought off with "I won't do it again, I swear." I'm sorry, you don't deserve a scholarship (most likely a full-ride) if you can't keep on the straight and narrow. Far too often we see young athletes take advantage of their position and end up on a spiral to their ruin both personally and professionally.

B. Mosier on T. Hibbs - March 7, 2008
Part 5 of 5 Tyler Hibbs should NOT be in the school, should NOT be able to play baseball and I urge parents to contact Arundel High School 410-674-6500 and demand that Principal Stratton take immediate and decisive action to have Tyler Hibbs removed from school following the aforementioned regulation.

Part 4 of 5 I realize we cannot eradicate drugs 100%; however, to allow this student to remain IN SCHOOL and participating in an extra-curricular activity - which I might add is a privilege and not a right - with the charges present gives the appearance of AACPS condoning this type of illegal activity.

Part 3 of 5 I don't know about anyone else, but any individual arrested with the amount of drugs and paraphernalia that Tyler Hibbs was arrested with creates a HUGE concern for me as a parent of an AACPS student.

Part 2 of 5 where the Principal of ANY school in Anne Arundel County has the ability to "determine if the presence of this student poses a threat to the student, to others, or to the educational process at the school."

Part 1 of 5 Mr. Mosier is evidently unaware that there is an AACPS REGULATION Policy JCC (formerly Policy 902.19) for Students Charged With Community Offenses
