Kent Island tops Northeast, claims first region crown : Buccaneers put halt to Eagles' runPublished 05/15/08
When Kent Island boys lacrosse coach Tim Kerr looks back on all of his birthdays, his 24th might be the sweetest one. Kerr celebrated in style last night, as his Buccaneers defeated Northeast, 13-9, to capture the 3A-2A East Region championship. The title is the first in the nine-year history of the Kent Island varsity lacrosse program. "It's probably the best birthday present I could ever have," Kerr said. The Buccaneers were bounced from the region semifinals in overtime last season by the Eagles, and Kerr's younger brother, Kenny, was part of that Northeast squad.
