Gilman's defensive players came into the game with one objective: Stop Mark McNeill. They did, and it worked.

Tailback Neill Lewnes of St. Mary’s rushed for 72 yards on 15 carries, but Gilman was too strong for the Saints last night, taking a 28-0 victory in the prep football season opener for both teams. McNeill, St. Mary's All-County receiver, was limited to one catch for minus-6 yards, and Darius Jennings rushed for two touchdowns to lift Gilman to a 28-0 win last night. "We were trying to get Mark the ball," Saints coach Brad Best said. "They doubled him hard. We tried early to get the ball to him, but we weren't able to."
