Mount Carmel topples Annapolis boys in final

Annapolis might want to reconsider inviting Mount Carmel to next year's Capital City Classic.

The Cougars, the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association defending B Conference champions, rode the hot shooting of sophomore Ricky Meekins to capture their second straight Classic title with a 60-54 win over the host Panthers last night in the championship game of the 34th Annual Fred Stauffer Capital City Basketball Classic.

Meekins scored 18 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to help Mount Carmel turn a two-point halftime-lead into a 17-point advantage early in the fourth quarter. He hit five 3-pointers in the...
