Girls Basketball Roundup: Payne paces Severn to tournament titlePublished 12/31/08
Junior guard Aura Payne led Severn's girls basketball team with 22 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and four steals as the Admirals topped rival St. Mary's, 74-54, in the Queen Anne's Tournament final. Senior forward Leanne Hug added 20 points with six rebounds for Severn. The Admirals averaged more than 76 points in three tournament games. Payne and Hug were named to the All-Tournament team along with St. Mary's Melanie Mocniak and Katie Bollhurst. Severn's Katie Dickerson was named tournament Most Valuable Player.
