Fretwell, a two-time team Most Valuable Player as Loyola College's goalkeeper, was an assistant with St. Mary's for the last three seasons, helping lead the Saints deep into the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference playoffs in 2009.
The Saints (14-2) boasted a stout defense and a high-scoring offense to pave the way to a semifinal appearance, where they fell to Calvert Hall.
This is Fretwell's first job as a head coach.
