Prep Roundup: Severna Park clinches final berth

Jared Fenton scored twice, and Matt ward and Joe Henke added goals to help the Falcons clinch a berth in Tuesday's District V boys soccer title game. South River's 4-3 victory over North County edged out Broadneck in a tight race for Anne Arundel County's participant against Howard County's champion.

Mario Diaz scored Northeast's goal.

SOUTH RIVER 4, NORTH COUNTY 3: Mike Kane's three goals and Thomas McSweegan's score brought the Seahawks back in the first 20 minutes of the second to rally past the Knights.

Jay Lowman, Jack Deckman and Greg Hauck staked North County to a 3-0 halftime lead, and Eddie Jones and Scott Wilson netted the assists for North County.

OLD MILL 3, ANNAPOLIS 2 (OT): Matt Collins and Ian Erickson scored in the first half, and Kevin Agostinho netted the game-winner as the Patriots edged the Panthers. Perry Clark and Ron Vaughters each assisted for Old Mill.

Rolin Lopez scored both Annapolis goals, and Rory Peabody assisted the first.

IAAM PLAYOFFS: Severn's Lillian Cartwright and Jordan Hurlebaus fell in the finals of the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference No. 2 doubles tournament, losing to Roland Park's Jen Abrams and Marlen Koliatsos, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6.

SEVERN 3, ST. MARY'S-RYKEN 1: Rachel Steinberg notched two goals and Alexa Kunowski had one as the Admirals outpaced the Knights. Danielle Thompson assisted on two goals.

SPALDING 1, SETON KEOUGH 0: Kelsey Bonner scored with seven minutes left in the first half to guide the Cavaliers. Leyan deBorja made fives saves to make her coach, Leslee Brady, a victor over her daughter, Maureen Brady-Doran, for the fourth straight time.

AACS DEF. KEY: The Obezags (5-12-1) were forced to forfeit due to excessive illness, allowing the Eagles (15-2-1) to finish with a 14-1-1 record and clinch the IAAM C Conference regular-season title.

VOLLEYBALL

SOUTH RIVER 3, NORTH COUNTY 0: Jackie Martin went 19-for-20 serving with four aces to power the Seahawks to a sweep of the Knights (3-9), 25-11, 25-7, 25-23. Haley Jeffries had six kills and five aces, while Kristin Cooper notched eight kills for South River (10-2).

SEVERNA PARK 3, NORTHEAST 0: Carlie Converse had 14 aces and added two kills to lead the Falcons to a 25-6, 25-4, 25-13 sweep of the Eagles (0-11). Tempe Martens added five kills and five aces, while Trish Kallis contributed four kills and three blocks for top-ranked Severna Park (12-1).

OLD MILL 3, ANNAPOLIS 0: Kaitlin DiGiacinto had 17 aces, eight kills and five digs to lead the Patriots (9-4) past the Panthers, 25-14, 25-14, 25-14. Breana Harris had five kills, two aces and a block, and Amanda Oswinkle went 9-for-10 serving with three aces.

Samantha Engel went 9-for-11 with two aces and three digs for the Panthers (4-9), while Nora Karsten went 6-for-7 with four kills and five digs, and Candace Greene posted four kills.

SOUTHERN 3, GLEN BURNIE 0: Tess Daley's 18-for-18 serving, ace and 12 digs paced the Bulldogs to a 25-13, 25-10, 25-16 sweep of the Gophers (3-8). Jordan Gibson went 16-for-16 serving with an ace, six digs and two kills for Southern (9-4), while Jessica Lee had 16 assists, five digs, four kills and two aces.

Glen Burnie's Courtney Strambler had three kills.

CHESAPEAKE 3, MEADE 0: Rose Smith went 18-for-21 serving with seven aces, five kills and a block as Cougars (5-9) swept the Mustangs, 25-20, 25-19, 25-20. Jenny Kintaro paced Meade (2-10), going 11-for-12 with four assists and a pair of aces, and Madison Mitchell added two kills and two aces.
