Tanner Martz, Sr., Chesapeake, soccer
Martz had an extremely productive week for the Cougars, scoring four goals and collecting a pair of assists in back-to-back wins. Martz led off the week with a hat trick during a 7-1 victory over Glen Burnie Tuesday. The center midfielder directed the Chesapeake offense to perfection in a 5-0 dispatching of Meade (6-7) Thursday. He scored and assisted on two others to assure the Cougars (10-4) their third 10-win season in four years.
Honorable Mention
Bart George, Jr., Broadneck, golf
Despite falling out of the lead early Wednesday, George finished his junior season with a third-place finish at the state tournament to lead all county golfers. George shot a 4-over-par 77 on Day 2 at Potomac Ridge to lead the Bruins to a fourth-place finish in the Class 4A/3A team standings.
George, who finished second at the county championship and third at the Region V tournament, led with a 1-over-par 74 on Day 1, but fell five strokes behind Middletown's Alex Hoffman on the back nine on the second day.
GIRLS
Lexi Cavey, So., Severna Park, soccer
Cavey recorded her 10th consecutive shutout Thursday against Northeast, but her performance two days earlier really stood out. Cavey stopped 14 shots and worked around constant pressure from Arundel to lead Severna Park to a 1-0 victory, sole possession of the county championship, a shot at the District V title and the top spot in the Class 4A East Region tournament.
Cavey, who made a pair of diving saves late in the first half against Arundel, didn't face a shot in a 10-0 victory over Northeast. She's allowed just four goals all season - one to a public school - and has a .955 save percentage.
Honorable Mention
Kari Cunard, Jr., S. River, soccer
Cunard scored four goals, including a hat trick against North County, to push the Seahawks to a 2-0 week. After scoring the go-ahead goal in the first half during a 3-0 victory over Annapolis Tuesday, Cunard added three on the Knights.
