Prep Roundup: Marshall scores a pair; Annapolis scores upset

Jessie Marshall scored two goals in the first half as Annapolis blanked top-seeded Leonardtown 4-0 yesterday in the Class 4A East Region field hockey quarterfinals.

Annapolis will play Severna Park on Tuesday in the semifinals.

Emily Bohannan had a goal and an assist, Elena Dibaradinis scored a goal and Jody Cumberpatch added an assist. Sophia Openshaw made 15 saves for the Panthers.

AACS 1, ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI 0: Anna Marie Laycock scored midway through the second half to propel the Eagles into the IAAM C Conference finals.

Emily Ferguson made three saves to preserve the shutout and the Eagles outshot Pallotti, 20-5. AACS squares off against Mercy today at Roland Park Country Day School.

OLD MILL 1, ANNAPOLIS 0: Jimmy Dutcher scored the game's only goal and Randy Depfer made two saves to propel the Patriots into the 4A East Region second round.

Adam Miller made six saves for Annapolis, which was looking for its first win of the season. Old Mill will face Severna Park in the second round on Tuesday.

KEY 7, ST. JOHN'S CATHOLIC PREP 1: Luca Verdi, Harrison Barton, Maris Beigel, Colin Martin, Kevin Ewing, Hugo McMenamin and Kai Pinkney all scored as the Obezags defeated the Vikings in the MIAA C Conference quarterfinals.

Key will face Chapelgate in the semifinals at Western Regional Park on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

NORTH COUNTY 1, GLEN BURNIE 0: Gregg Hauck scored on a first-half penalty kick to carry the Knights past the host Gophers in the first round of the Class 4A East regional tournament. Keeper Pat Carey made five saves to earn the shutout.

The Knights advance to play host Broadneck on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

CENTENNIAL 3, NORTHEAST 0: Despite solid efforts by Alex Gonzalez and keeper Cody Koester, Northeast fell to the host Eagles in the first round of the Class 4A East regional tournament.

KENT ISLAND 6, WICOMICO 3: Caylin Dudley scored five times and her sister Erin added a goal as the Buccaneers defeated the Indians in a Class 2A East Region first-round matchup.

Kent Island will play at Parkside on Tuesday in the next round.

Ashley Crossman had an assist and Nicole Sorsman made four saves for the Buccaneers. Angela Walker made 25 saves for Wicomico.
