BOYS

Will Neal, Sr., Chesapeake, cross country

Neal led South River's cross country course for more than two miles to secure his first county championship Wednesday, topping his peers in 16 minutes, 44 seconds. Neal, Chesapeake's only runner in the top 10, finished 23 seconds ahead of Severna Park's Brendan Cooley.

Neal became Chesapeake's first county cross country champion in 21 years since David Dietzway in 1988.

Honorable Mention

Billy Cosh, Sr., Arundel, football

Cosh threw for 319 yards and six touchdowns in a 62-21 victory over Meade Friday. Despite throwing a season-high two interceptions, Cosh completed 33 of 45 passes and threw two touchdowns in each of the last three quarters to lead the Wildcats to their 20th consecutive victory over a county opponent.

Cosh has completed 68 percent of his passes for 2,425 yards and 43 touchdowns.

GIRLS

Hillary Lee, Sr., South River, cross country

Lee overcame an early-season injury to win her third county championship Wednesday, besting the field by running South River's 3.1-mile course in 20 minutes, 18 seconds - 13 seconds ahead of Severna Park's Chris Patrick. Lee became the fourth female to win three county titles and the first runner to place in the top two during each of his or her four seasons.

Lee, the two-time Female Cross Country Runner of the Year, missed three major events this season due to a right shin injury. Her first-place finish gave the Seahawks second in the team race.

Honorable Mention

Courtney Hoyes, Sr., Archbishop Spalding, soccer

Hoyes didn't score a goal in the Cavaliers' second consecutive Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title match, but it wasn't necessary. She'd already done enough. Hoyes scored four goals in Archbishop Spalding's previous two playoff games - two against St. Mary's and both in a 2-1, overtime win against John Carroll in the semifinals.

Hoyes, second on the Cavaliers with 16 goals, scored the tying goal against the Patriots with six seconds left in regulation before putting through a second with 3:03 left in overtime to give her team a shot at the title.
