Both teams performed at an extremely high level and left no doubt they could compete with any program in the state while combining on a back-and-forth thriller that may go down as the greatest game in county history.

The undefeated Wildcats and underdog Patriots went toe-to-toe for four quarters and two overtimes in an amazing offensive slugfest that showcased some top shelf talent from both schools. When it was over, the two teams...

Best Game in Maryland Playoff Histo - 2009-11-21 16:15:02

I've been around high school football for many years and played in what was (at least for awhile)considered one of the greatest championship games in Maryland history - Friendly 6 - High Point 0 (1983). I have seen, coached, or played in countless games and I have to concur with Mr. Wagner's assessment that on this night, either team might have beaten any other team in the state. This was a great game and really, you had to be there to grasp how good it was. Despite the score, these are two good defenses that really got outshined to two great offenses. Predictability for both these teams is a strength and they dared each other, or anyone else for that matter to stop what they do. Furman is a special talent and his 400+ yards came on 42 carries. Take away his 5 longest runs and this was really a slugfest. Great game!

Not sure about the "best in state" talk. When your defense allows those kind of numbers that is a tall statement. Those stats are something you would see in a backyard football game against your little brother, not in a regional final. The two teams were very predictable - Arundel 60 passes, Old Mill 50+ rushes - so we will see how it pans out against the best defenses late in the playoffs. Great season for both teams - now let's go bring a championship back to AA County.
