The strategy worked sooner than expected, as the Patriots jumped to an early lead en route to a 76-54 romp yesterday.
The Patriots (20-3) will play Urbana (21-2) in the state semifinals on Thursday, 9 p.m., at Comcast Center in College Park.
"They hadn't been pressed a whole lot, and we are a pressing team," said Old Mill coach Greg Smith. "Right from the beginning we tried to rattle them a little bit and make them play our pace."
