We have an older - 1960s - two story home with oak floors on the first floor and carpet upstairs. We had them refinished several years ago and they still look very good but they are noisy when you walk over them - squeaky. Do you have any ideas on how to stop the noise? One suggestion I heard was to install wood screws from the underside in the basement through the subfloor into the oak planking. Will that work?
Hardwood floors tend to squeak over time. Old houses like yours, with hand-nailed hardwood floors, are very creaky when you walk across them. My mother used to say that they kept people honest.
