We recently asked a company to clean the heating and air conditioning ducts in our home, which we bought about a year ago. They came over, had a look, and refused to clean them, saying that they needed to be replaced. He said that they were so full of dirt and bacteria and viruses that cleaning them would make no difference. But he could replace them for $4,500. ($750 per vent, apparently regardless of how much ductwork there was).
I suspect that we could hire someone else to replace the ducts for less money, but I'm not entirely certain he wasn't just trying to get hired for an expensive but unnecessary job. I had a look in...
