During the housing boom of 2004 and 2005, easy mortgage money and a reasonably good economy made it possible for many longtime renters to make the leap to home ownership. In retrospect, some were perhaps a bit shy of being able to actually afford a home, and subsequently, many have now made the round trip back to the option of renting.
Additionally, the severity of this recession has also claimed the fortune of numerous longtime homeowners.
