But the Annapolis author did plenty of research when she was writing "Red Kayak," and her attention to detail is one of things that's earned her 15th book accolades. Most recently, "Red Kayak" was named to the American Library Association's 2006 list of Best Books for Young Adults.
The award doesn't come with a trophy or a plaque, but it could mean higher sales and definitely translates to higher visibility for her work.
