Attorneys push for a new way of handling divorce casesPublished 08/03/06

This group of county professionals has banded together to promote a new alternative to traditional divorce cases. Called collaborative law, the aim is to resolve issues surrounding divorce without a heated court battle. Clockwise: attorney Nancy Weller of Annapolis, counselor Patricia Simpson of Chesapeake Beach, attorney Jennifer Merrill of Annapolis, financial planner George Collis of Arnold and attorney Michael Lay of Baltimore.A group of local attorneys has joined with therapists and financial advisors to promote a concept called collaborative law. Instead to heading to court for what could be a contentious legal battle, in collaborative law, a couple meets with their attorneys in private and works out their own settlement.
