For some vacationers, flying south this winter is for the birds. Instead, they've opted for a bit of northern exposure, setting their sights on the perfect getaway destination: Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. Absolutely charming, uncommonly friendly and surprisingly unspoiled: no wonder this jewel of a place, situated at the confluence of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, is the recipient of the "Prettiest Town in Canada" award, and has been designated as one of the country's National Historic Sites.
