The 3-year-old is now a well-behaved pet who sits quietly when someone comes to the door and walks patiently behind her master.
It wasn't always like this.
"She used to rule my life," said Shelby's owner, Kim Giroux of Severn. "She used to embarrass me whenever I'd take her anywhere. She'd walk me."
Ms. Giroux tried to take Shelby for obedience classes to get her under control, but the dog was so unruly she got thrown out. Finally, a few months ago, Ms. Giroux's husband issued an ultimatum: Get the dog trained or get rid of her.
