For some people, doing drugs or drinking alcohol is a quick and easy glimpse at how beautiful life can be.
When someone first starts to use drugs or alcohol, the destruction that it can cause may not be readily apparent, or it may be outweighed by the euphoria that's being experienced.
That's how it was for me when I started a five-year battle with drugs and alcohol that could have cost me my life. I began drinking and doing drugs because I thought it was what musicians did, as if it was my rite of passage. I also must admit that I enjoyed it a great deal in the beginning.
