How fortunate Marylanders are that, back in 1844, several local residents had the foresight to see the need for the preservation of books, manuscripts, furniture, paintings and decorative arts representing the Free State's and our nation's heritage. Thanks to their efforts, the establishment of a repository for these treasures became a reality.
