Swimmer tells story of recovery from bus accidentPublished 06/08/08
Colleen Dugan — The CapitalHaley Scott DeMaria, a former swimmer at Notre Dame, puts on her old back brace. The 34-year-old Annapolis resident survived a terrible bus crash as a college freshman and has written a book about her experiences. She survived six surgeries and an initial diagnosis of paralysis. Haley Scott DeMaria just couldn't do it. She couldn't put her son on the bus for a school field trip last fall. Instead, she drove her 6-year-old to the National Aquarium in Baltimore herself. As much she's recovered from a harrowing bus crash when she was a college freshman, there are still some obstacles she's yet to overcome. "I was more disappointed for him," she said recently.
