Published 08/17/08

For many years, experts have debated just how much exercise people need in order to successfully lose weight.

Studies have consistently shown that 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week is essential to maintain a healthy weight. Now there's clear evidence indicating that amount of exercise is far less than people need in order to lose weight.

Recently released research has found that to lose weight people need to exercise for at least one hour almost every day. According to a study published last month in the Archives of Internal Medicine, the more exercise an individual does every day, the more...

Hi Dr. Tom,

i enjoyed this article that you wrote and found it very consistent with what I've read and teach with my own clients. I think you touched on all the bases that require a person to be successful at weight loss.

But i think what mostly stands out is the fact that they must be mindful at the actions they take. The only think i have to disagree with would be closer to the end where you say

"By doing the same thing every day at the same time and in the same way, you'll build a new set of automatic - but healthy - behaviors"

I understand where your coming from with it to help them build a healthy and permanent behavior, but i think people also need change to get out of daily ruts and out of their comfort zones. They will be abel to grow a lot more this way instead of getting stuck doing the same old things day in and day out.

Other than that i really enjoyed the article!

Thank you,
